PLUS+ Claim
Align your impact with your organizational priorities. Choose among the four pillars of Human Impact, Grid Impact, Timeliness, and Clean Claims. Each PLUS+ REC is assigned a score out of 100 using our data-driven scoring methodology. The higher the score, the more impactful your RECs.
PLUS+ provides cutting-edge granularity and metadata, allowing you to fine-tune your impact and stay at the forefront of environmental leadership. PLUS+ evaluates over 50 variables for renewable energy projects, enabling quick comparisons and differentiation of environmental claims based on transparent metrics and four impact pillars.
It’s a framework to help us understand what you value. When you buy PLUS+ RECs, you send price signals based on what’s important to you. This helps developers understand what technology to build, where to build it, and how to help you support your claim.
Applicable Standard | PLUS+ |
Human Impact | Adhere to Justice40 sourcing guidelines |
Grid Impact | Wind/solar facilities proximate on ISO in lower grid-congestion areas |
Timely Impact | Newer facilities, closely matched vintage, correlate to hourly load profile |
Provenance | Fully-traced upstream warranties, voluntary program certification, no double-claiming |
Voluntary Label | Potential Green-e; EKOenergy |

Cutting Edge Claims
The Four Pillars of PLUS+
Four pillars, scoring up to 25 points, for a total impact potential of 100 points. Pretty easy, right?

Human Impact
We evaluate projects based on key metrics set forth by Justice 40.

Grid Impact
Procure RECs that lower curtailment and reduce impacts to grid operating costs and reliability issues.

Timely
The ability to procure hourly RECs from projects from across the globe.

Clean Claims
An in depth scoring methodology for evaluating the risk of environmental credit double claiming.
PLUS+ Distributed Generation Solar
For companies committed to making an impact in their communities. PLUS+ DG Solar RECs allows you to take credit for bringing new solar projects online that support neighborhood organizations.
You decide the areas and types of organizations you want to impact, such as schools, hospitals and nonprofits in cities where you have a presence. We create a grant program offered to our network of over 250 solar installers, and select suitable qualifying projects. The added value from the solar RECs makes the projects viable.
Applicable Standard | PLUS+ DG |
Human Impact | Support burdened communities, directly serve humans onsite |
Grid Impact | On-ISO distributed generation solar facilities |
Timely Impact | Newer facilities, closely matched vintage, correlate to hourly load profile |
Provenance | Purchased directly from self-generation facility, no double-claiming |
Contract Term | 5-10 years with annual SREC delivery |
Voluntary Label | Potential Green-e; EKOenergy |
Step 1 – Define your area of influence
Drop a pin and select the radius of influence

Step 2 – Select beneficiary types
Select the organizations you want to support

Step 3 – Select distributed solar array sizes
Configure array size, e.g. 0-20kW, 20-100, 100-500, 500-1MW

Step 4 – Define allocation
Configure allocation among the desired system sizes

Step 5 – Create grant program
We advise you on REC prices for your portfolio.

Step 6 – We get your solar built, and you get the SRECs

Standard Claim – RE100-aligned
For high-integrity companies aligned with the intent of the RE100 technical and credible claim criteria. Ensure all of your RECs include voluntary labels such as Green-e or EKOenergy.
Applicable Standard | RE100 Technical Criteria & Credible Claim Guidance |
Facility Types | Wind, Solar, Geothermal, Low-impact Hydro, and Sustainable Biomass |
Facility Age | Up to 15 years old |
REC Vintage | Aligned with Green-e Reporting Year convention (21-month generation window) |
Market Boundary | US-Canada; EU (AIB-grid connected); Taiwan; else: same country |
Voluntary Label | Recommend Green-e; EKOenergy |
Minimal Claim – GHG Scope 2 Protocol-aligned
For cost-driven companies meeting the basic requirements in the GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance or SBTi.
Applicable Standard | RE100 Technical Criteria & Credible Claim Guidance (compliance) |
Facility Types | Wind; Solar; Geothermal; Hydro; Biomass |
Facility Age | Up to 15 years |
REC Vintage | Any (‘reasonably close’) |
Market Boundary | US-Canada; EU (AIB-grid connected); Taiwan; else: same country |
Voluntary Label | Not required |
Geothermal Renewable Energy Certificates (G-RECs)
G-RECs convey the energy savings from geothermal heating and cooling systems, enabling building owners and developers to go ‘all-electric’. Companies source G-RECs to account for the avoided natural gas and electricity consumption in their operations.
Carbon Solutions Group has been a Green-e Energy® certified marketer since 2007. Green‑e® Energy is North America’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable electricity. Green-e Energy® certified RECs are independently audited to ensure voluntary consumer protection.
FAQs:
Introduction to RECs
Procuring RECs doesn’t have to be hard. Our customers rely on our industry expertise when procuring RECs, and we support them in achieving their sustainability goals, adhering to voluntary sustainability standards, and maximizing their impact. A few voluntary standards we specialize in include:
- Greenhouse Gas Scope 2 Protocol
- Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
- RE100
- LEED
- GRESB
Carbon Solutions Group is active in over 60 markets across the globe and trades RECs from various standards, such as Green-e, Ecologo, I-REC, Guarantees of Origin (GO), Renewable Guarantees of Origin (REGO), T-REC, GEC, and NFC, to name a few.
What are RECs?
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are certificates that are generated with renewable energy. The renewable energy (electrons) and the REC (‘greenness’) can be sold separately.
Why buy them?
Electrons on a grid are all jumbled up. They look the same whether from coal (non-renewable energy) or wind (renewable energy), for example. When you buy a REC, you have the right to claim renewable energy consumption. RECs allow you to support renewable generators and send a price signal that ensures more renewables come online.
How do they work?
RECs are tracked on independent registries created just for that purpose. When their owners want to make a renewable electricity claim, they pair them up with their own electricity consumption, and ‘retire’ or ‘cancel’ the RECs. The environmental claim is tracked in the registry, and the RECs are removed from it.
How do I get started?
Most companies start by setting carbon neutrality goals or committing to sustainability standards, such as RE100 and SBTi. Our team is here to help you navigate each voluntary standard, from the most basic to the most impactful. A few voluntary standards we specialize in include: Greenhouse Gas Scope 2 Protocol, Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), RE100, LEED, and GRESB. If you’re ready to buy RECs, you can speak with us, or fill out our quote form.

Steps to transact RECs
